Where Should the Wellness House Be Located?

The Best View Is Not Always the Best Location

With a panoramic sauna, it may seem obvious to orient the building towards the most attractive view. The real question, however, is from where and at what height you will actually experience that view. The perspective is different when standing, sitting on the upper sauna bench, or lying down in the relaxation area.

When positioning a wellness house, looking at the floor plan alone is not enough. Sightlines, surrounding vegetation, neighbouring buildings and the characteristics of the plot all need to be considered together. Sometimes moving the building by just a few metres can provide a better view, greater privacy and a more natural connection with the garden at the same time.

The Movement of the Sun Shapes the Space Throughout the Day

Orientation is not simply about choosing a direction on the compass. It is also worth considering when the wellness house will most often be used.
A space designed primarily for morning use may require very different lighting conditions from a wellness area mainly used in the late afternoon or evening. With large glass surfaces, direct sunlight also affects indoor comfort, while roof overhangs, shading or surrounding vegetation can help reduce overheating during the summer.
Good orientation begins when light, views and the way the space will be used are not treated as separate considerations, but as parts of the same decision.

In Winter, the Distance from the House Feels Longer

In summer, a path through the garden can be an enjoyable part of the experience. In autumn, on a wet surface or on a cold winter evening, the same distance can feel very different. That is why access to the wellness house should not be treated as a secondary consideration. It matters how the building connects to the terrace, whether stairs are involved, how slip-resistant the surface is, and whether there is sufficient lighting along the route.
A good connection between the main house and the wellness house does not necessarily need to be visually striking. It simply makes everyday use more comfortable.

Privacy Is Not Determined by the Amount of Glass

A large panoramic glass surface can feel open while still providing privacy. To achieve this, however, it is important to understand from the design stage where the building will be visible from.
Neighbouring properties, the street, windows of the main house and the way the garden is used all influence where the façade should be opened up and where a more enclosed design may be appropriate. In many cases, there is no need to reduce the amount of glazing. Better orientation, a slatted wall, vegetation or carefully designed screening may be enough.
This way, privacy does not become an additional solution applied afterwards, but an integral part of the architecture from the beginning.

The Garden Needs Space Too

An outdoor wellness house truly finds its place when it works not as a separate building, but as part of the garden. It can connect to the terrace, frame the pool area, define a more private section of the garden or create a new visual axis across the entire plot. This does not necessarily require the largest possible building, but rather the right proportions.

The size, position and orientation of the wellness house work best when they remain in harmony with the main house and the surrounding plot.

That is why, when designing a good wellness house, we do not begin by choosing a floor plan. We first find the place in the garden where the building truly makes sense.
