Bespoke Sauna Without Compromise

Often, a sauna works well precisely because we know where to leave space. The aim is not simply to make it fit, but to make it feel like a natural part of your home.

An attic sauna: every centimetre counts

Designing a sauna beneath a sloping roof requires a different approach from working with a conventional, rectangular room. The roof slope can determine the height of the upper bench, the length of the reclining area, the position of the glazing and even which wall is best suited for the sauna heater. When these elements are considered separately, the result can easily feel uncomfortable or poorly proportioned.

That is why, in an attic sauna, the bench layout, cladding, glazing, lighting and technical design are planned together from the very first sketches. A sloping wall does not necessarily need to be hidden. Often, a better solution is to design the benches or glass panels so that the roof slope becomes a natural part of the sauna. This can preserve more usable space while giving the room a distinctive character.

A basement, a narrow room or a column in the middle?

Some of the most interesting saunas are created in spaces that previously seemed difficult to use. A basement, a long, narrow room or a space divided by a structural column may not look ideal at first, but it can still provide an excellent starting point. What matters is how we use it.

A column, for example, is not always a problem that needs to disappear. It can be incorporated into the cladding, mark the end of a bench or help determine where the glazing should go. In a narrow room, one genuinely comfortable bench for lying down is often more valuable than two bench levels squeezed in simply to make the sauna seem more generously equipped. This is where bespoke sauna construction truly demonstrates its value. We do not adapt the room to ready-made components. Instead, the room itself is the starting point for the build.

A good sauna does not have to be large

Floor area alone says little about how comfortable a sauna will be. The same space calls for a different layout for a couple who enjoy evening sauna sessions than for a family of four or five using it together. Different bench heights, a different heater position or even a different proportion of glazing may be the right choice.

There is no benefit in overloading a small sauna with an oversized heater, extensive glazing or multiple bench levels simply for the sake of it. A premium feel does not come from fitting more into the room, but from putting everything in the right place. The right timber, a comfortable bench to lie on, understated lighting and an easy-to-use control system mean far more in everyday use than any striking detail with no practical purpose.

First, let us take a look at your space

Whether you have an attic, a basement or a room with unusual features, you do not need to decide in advance whether it is suitable for a sauna. A few photographs, a short video or an online sauna survey may already be enough to identify a promising direction for the design.

Some ideas may need to be adjusted. We may also discover possibilities that were not immediately obvious. That is the essence of bespoke design: not offering ready-made answers, but finding the solution that genuinely works in your home.
