We do not start with a ready-made cabin

With a catalogue sauna, the dimensions, shape and most details are already predetermined. In many situations this can be a suitable solution, but in a bespoke interior the goal is often different: the sauna should not appear as a separate element added afterwards.

Even a few centimetres can make a noticeable difference. A full glass wall creates a very different sense of space from a partially enclosed front. The height of the benches, the tone of the timber, the position of the heater and the lighting can all influence the overall result. Poorly chosen proportions or connections can easily disrupt the visual harmony already established in the surrounding interior.

This is why bespoke sauna planning is not simply about resizing an existing model. It starts with the space itself, the way the sauna will be used and the character of the home.

3D helps where the floor plan is no longer enough

A floor plan can show exactly where the heater will be positioned, how wide a bench will be or how much circulation space remains. What is much harder to imagine is how timber, glass, lighting and the surrounding finishes will work together. A realistic 3D visualisation makes these relationships visible. If a glass surface feels too large, a bench appears too heavy or a timber finish does not work with the surrounding materials, the design can still be adjusted before production begins.

At the design stage, these may only require a few changes. Once manufacturing has started, the same adjustments can mean dismantling, remanufacturing or accepting compromises that nobody originally wanted. A 3D visualisation therefore does much more than show what the finished sauna may look like. It is part of the decision-making process.

Visual impact alone is not enough

Behind every well-designed sauna is a carefully considered technical concept. Heater output and safety distances, ventilation, electrical connections, glazing, bench dimensions, structural support and lighting all influence whether a concept that looks good in a visualisation can also be built properly.

A large glass wall, for example, can visually open up the sauna while also increasing its heating demand. A floating bench may create a light and minimal appearance, but it requires a precisely designed supporting structure. Indirect lighting or distinctive wall finishes also work best when they are considered from the beginning of the construction process.

With premium saunas, design and technical planning should never be treated as separate tasks. Both need to come together within the same design.

The real question is not whether the sauna fits

When a sauna is planned for a bathroom, bedroom suite, wellness area or even a separate garden sauna house, simply checking the dimensions of the cabin is not enough. The sauna also needs to work with its surroundings. The real question is not simply whether the sauna fits into the room, but whether it truly belongs there.

When proportions, materials and technical details are coordinated during the planning stage, the finished sauna does not feel like an element added afterwards. It becomes a natural part of the architecture and interior.

That is the difference between a sauna that happens to be the right size and one that has genuinely been designed for the space.
